WHY ARE THERE NO MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANTS IN TURKEY?
WHY ARE THERE NO MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANTS IN TURKEY?
Turkey is one of the most outstanding locations for foodies. With its immersed culture and traditions, Turkey is considered the third richest cuisine after the French and Chinese gastronomy. However, this rich cuisine is not well-known and commonly perceptions are only limited to döner or kebab.
Turkey is a crossroads between Asia and Europe. This unique location combined with-migrations has shaped her gastronomy over the centuries. This is the reason why some of the dishes are common with other countries’ gastronomy.
We can divide Turkish cuisine into three regions:
The Western and Turkish Aegean cuisine: based on the Greek and Ottoman cuisines including seafood.
The cuisine of the Black Sea: based on sea produce with the influence of Balkan-and Slavic cuisines.
Anatolian and Southeast – cuisine: known for its kebabs, mezzes, spices, and desserts including baklava.
But among this large culture and amazing food, why are there -no Michelin Star restaurants in Turkey?
Currently, Michelin Guide is limited to only 26 countries in Europe and 38 countries globally. Unfortunately, this precious guide does not include Turkey because there are no local representatives.
Good News!
Rumor has it that the Michelin Guide is thinking of sending a representative to Istanbul!, which will then allow many exceptional restaurants and chefs to have Michelin stars.
