Do you like to travel? How do you enjoy traveling? With your friends? Family? Loved-one? Or by yourself? If you like to explore new places freely, solo traveling is for you! But why? Let’s focus on the reasons why you should travel by yourself.
1. Expand your comfort zone The only way to overcome fear is to do the things you fear. By doing the things you fear, you will gain courage and confidence. Traveling solo is also an adventure that allows you to broaden your view. Seeing new places and cultures, hearing new languages, and meeting new people will put you outside your normal comfort zone. Traveling alone also out away the limitations you have when you are traveling with your friends or family.
2. Go where you want when you want
This might be the biggest reason why you should travel solo: INDEPENDENCE. Without any restrictions or discussions, you can choose your destination and timescale by yourself. In other terms, traveling solo means freedom. You can plan everything or be as spontaneous as you wish. You can get up at sunrise and go hiking or you can listen to your favorite music at the hotel. There is also no fighting over where to go for dinner or whether to stay late at night the day before the flight.
3. Discover yourself
Some explorers travel not to see a new place but to discover themselves. By traveling solo, you will be away from your circle and your normal daily routine. You will have no responsibility for your partner, children, or pet. By the end of your journey, you will have a clearer view of yourself in terms of what you enjoy, what you prefer to avoid, your emotions. So, you will know yourself better than you do now.
4. Meet new people
You are much more approachable as a single person. It is also easier for you to approach other people as a single person. Imagine there is a small group of friends at the next table. They look like they are having fun, they enjoy their evening or there is another solo traveler who is trying to have a conversation with the bartender. You can easily start a new conversation or join their conversation as a solo person. Don’t forget, conversations with strangers are easier and more natural because they ask simple questions such as “Where are you from?” or “What are you doing here?”. You can easily tell them about your life without hesitation because most probably you won’t see them again. Also, who else is better than the natives as a resource for recommendations on accommodation, transport, food, and fun?
5. Easy planning
Imagine finding a flight ticket or booking a hotel room for a crowded group of friends? Either there is not enough space or one’s flight ticket is more expensive than yours, simply because you bought it before. Then there are complaints, “Because we go together, we should share the total cost and everyone should pay equally.”, “No, I don’t like that hotel, it doesn’t have a spa.”, or “This flight or hotel is so expensive let’s check the other deals.”. Because of comments like these, you lose time, and you waste the time you spent on research. The more you are, the more complicated it is to plan because it is hard to satisfy people. When you are alone, only you decide how to go, where to go, where to stay, and all the other details.
